I have to call this one Marco. The paper on it comes from Italy and has an explorer theme. When I first found this little cabinet it looked very plain in dark wood. I found the shape interesting and I wanted to give it a Venetian feel. I painted it with Annie Sloan chalk paint in old white, 3 layers, then I distressed it with sand paper. After a good dusting I applied some clear wax and then some dark wax. To finish I glued the italian paper with a glue/varnish. I applied another layer of glue/varnish on top of the paper.
Je me dois d'appeler celui-ci Marco. Le papier vient d'Italie et est sur le thème d'explorateur. Quand j'ai trouvé ce petit meuble il avait l'air un peu terne et ennuyeux. Je trouvais la forme intéressante et je voulais lui donner un air Vénitien. Je l'ai peint avec Annie Sloan "chalk paint" de couleur "old white", 3 couches, puis je l'ai légèrement poncé au papier de verre. J'ai bien dépoussiéré, puis j'ai ciré le meuble entier avec de la cire incolore, et ensuite avec de la cire foncée. Pour finir j'ai collé le papier avec du vernis colle. J'ai passé une dernière couche de vernis/colle par dessus le papier.
This is the first time I used dark wax. I like the way the dark wax is adding so much character and warmth to this piece. I was a little worried how dark the wax looked at first, but once on the whole piece it looked consistent. For my next piece I think I will only use the dark wax on certain areas because it seriously darkens the original paint colour, but this can be a nice effect as on this piece. It gives this cabinet an antique feel and a warm glow. Dark wax is great for adding texture and depth. I am determined to try various effects with dark wax on my next projects!
C'est la première fois que j'utilise de la cire foncée. J'aime l'effet qu'elle produit, je trouve qu'elle donne du caractère et un air chaleureux à ce meuble. J'étais un peu inquiète au début car ça fonce beaucoup la couleur de la peinture, mais une fois appliquée sur le meuble entier, l'effet est unifié. Pour mon prochain projet je vais essayer d'utiliser la cire foncée seulement sur certains détails du meuble. La cire foncée est parfaite pour souligner la texture d'un meuble. Je suis décidée à essayer plus d'effets produits par la cire foncée dans mes prochains projets!
